This is such an excellent piece, I have thoroughly enjoyed reading it as it speaks to everything that I believe. Our home is filled with our families items, going back generations & we make sue that we remember those who have gone before & their stories. Absolutely brilliant, thank You
Thank you Tracey for your kind words and for sharing a little bit about yourself. It's a joy to hear that your home is filled with family treasures and memories! :)
Love this! I’m Australian (descended from convicts sent here in 1788) and I’ve felt displaced forever. I have my ancestors stories after much research but no culture that I can call my own. No traditions. Even Christmas is in the wrong season here!
Hi Robyn, thank you so much for sharing. Many Australians have shared with me the same frustrations as you. Whether we live on the lands of our ancestors or not, the majority of us do feel disconnected. But please do not feel afraid to implement new traditions that bring meaning and purpose into your life that include the ancestors of both the land that you live on (which include the spirits of the land) as well as your ancestors of blood. Make traditions your own and share them with your family and friends. We do give ourselves a hard time trying so hard to keep the past alive and relevant today, which isn't always practical. Give yourself some grace, explore and research what you can and then make them personal. As for Christmas, that's a very hard one. Another thing you can do is follow nature and the rhythm of the turning year where you are. Take care :)
Love this article Elissa, so much so I'll read it all over again 😊 it's more important than ever to keep our traditions alive, it's kinda horrifying that the education system is teaching children to dislike our culture, and arnt teaching them the full picture, painting a pic of the British as being cruel. We all need an ancestral identity and have that sense of who we are and where we came from, sadly kids are being really deprived of it in schools today, and that's a pretty frightening concept.
Hi Laura, thank you for reading as I know my posts can get beefy!! I agree with everything that you have said and yes it's frightening indeed. I have not forgotten you and will reply to your email as soon as I am able. I have my hands full with family at the minute and doing my best to write one post a month. Thinking of you x
Hey Elissa aww thankyou and no worries, i hope all is well with you and the family 😊 like you I have been very busy with family and work, there's just no rest for the wicked aye lol 😵💫 I look forward to catching up with you soon xx
